Wealth and Riches: The Seventh Vail.

Thank God who has given us the grace to conclude the series:The Seven Vails Preventing People From Seeing God,their Maker. The last of these vails to discuss this week is, Wealth and Riches.
When discussing vail number five,Position and Power,I mentioned a rich man who said that he was rich because he was hardworking and God had no hand in it.His riches has become a vail that prevent him from seeing God.A parable of Jesus Christ contained in Luke 12:16-21, in summary, calls a rich man ‘who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God’,a fool.Do you know the reason for this? Read the words of the rich man whose ground yielded plentifully in verse 19,
‘And I will say to my soul,”Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years;take your ease;eat, drink, and be merry.” ‘
No consideration of other fellow human beings,he was pre-occupied with ‘I’,’My’,’Me’.His conversation was only between him and his soul, the most cherished. His Maker responded with,
‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you;then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ verse21.
So many wealthy and rich people behave like this man. They do not see any Maker somewhere blessing them. They see only their possessions.Asaph, the Psalmist capture their words this way,
‘They set their mouth against the heavens,
And their tongue walks through the earth…
And they say,”How does God know?
And is there knowledge in the Most High?” ‘ Psalm 73:9,11.
In verse twelve,Asaph calls them ‘the ungodly,who are always at ease;
They increase in riches.’
The regretable experience of a rich man who,in his life time ‘was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day’ but ended his journey ‘in torments in hell’ is enough a lesson for the wise.
Lamenting in Hades,he pleaded with father Abraham to send Lazarus,a poor man that the rich man failed to care for m earth,
‘to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'(Luke 16:27-28).
Because the story is interesting, clear and self-explanatory,I quote the conversation further as father Abraham said to the rich man,
29’They have Moses and the prophets:let them hear them.”
And he said,30,”No father Abraham;but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.”31 But he said to him,
”if they do not ear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.” ‘(Luke16)
May God give us the grace, we shall discuss the five brothers that the rich man had.
Are you rich and wealthy? Have these put a vail on you to prevent you from seeing God.Repent!
