Rachel’s Losses

It was love at the first sight
that set the ball rolling,
At the side of a well;
To feed the sheep –
Because you are a lady-shepherd.

Jacob plants a deep kiss,
On the land of your lips
Which you cannot resist.

On the first meeting day,
Your love arrests the heart
Of the young and energetic;
Only to arrest and imprison
It for the rest, yes, the rest of his life.

Four women bears him sons,
You’re the only “My wife”;
Among twelve sons,
Your two sons remains,
“The two sons of my wife”.

Rachel! O Rachel!
Is it your beautiful form,
And appearance?
Or unreserved love,
Jacob has for you
That makes you blind
To see and know your Maker-
The God of Israel?

Your rights are exchanged,
Your rights are shared;
With your sister, Leah
And your sevant and Leah’s.

Who knows?
Nobody knows,
Whether it is God’s finger
That is at work or not.

You love your husband,
But you hate Jacob’s Fear.
You know your spouse,
His God is a Stranger to you.

Family’s idols are dear to you,
You steal and keep them, Away from human eyes;
Not from All seeing eyes.
You take them to Holy land,
The land of God of Israel.

You are barren for long,
You have no son to call you:
“Mummy! Mummy!”
You go to Jacob, for a son;
Not God who denied you joy,
For your heart’s dregs of dirt.

You die on a labor day,
Delivering a second baby.
You give up the ghost,
Remains sleeps on the wayside.

You miss your right,
And the privilege to sleep;
Together with the righteous;
Who go before you.

To fulfill a particular painful prophecy,
It is not Leah, nor Zilpah,
Nor is it Bilah;
But it is you, Rachel.

“A voice was heard in Ramah,
Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning.
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted,
Because they are no more.” Matthew 2:18.
