“Do not overwork to be rich;
Because of your own understanding, cease!
Will you set your eyes on that which is not?
For riches certainly make themselves wings;
They fly away like an eagle towards heaven.” Proverbs 23:4-5
What mankind loves to do is to “tie” riches down and lock them up within his domain. Whereas, riches have wings, although they are not physical, with which they fly. Riches like birds love to fly in a specific direction and destination towards which they do this. This is heaven!
Do you ask “Why?”.
Riches fly toward heaven because that is the abode of their owner, God. The Scripture discloses in Proverbs 8:18,
“Riches and honor are with Me,
Enduring riches and righteousness.”
Riches know their origin and they are always home-sick. They do not love to be crippled.
“Home! Home!! Home!!!” is their song.
It is sure that riches cannot be retained for too long. The Holy Bible assures,
“For riches are not forever;
Nor does a crown endure to all generations.” Proverbs 27:24.
If a generation is able to retain and maintain riches, what will the next generation do to them? Will they have equal ability to handle them?
King Solomon’ lamentation is a great lesson for a wise heart; it sends a warning signal to all. In all his wisdom, honor and riches, he said,
“Then I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.
And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet, he will rule over my labor in which I toiled and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 2:18-19.
Then if this is the case with riches, what could you do?
One, do not over labor yourself to be rich but be wise like the Psalmist who declared,
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills-
From whence cmes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1
Let the Lord make them rich. Let your riches come from Him- a sure source! He alone can make you rich without much stress too hard labor. You must then be able to approach Him as “My Father in Heaven.” for all He has to give you.
Next, given His riches? You can effectively control the direction it flies to.
Riches grow wings and fly towards heaven. Fine! If you get your riches from God, the owner of riches, and riches love to fly back to Him; then direct their assignments toward heaven. Then Jesus Christ had the best counsel in respect of this when He said,
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on the earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19-20.
Henceforth, consider and heed this priceless counsel; it has multiple benefits. Let your riches fly to where they will be under your control and tthat of your generations after you, that is heaven.
You can direct it by spending them on the things of the owner of Heaven and Earth where riches love to fly toward like eagles.
Stay blessed and rapturable, the Lord is coming soon.
